Indianapolis Colts GM Ryan Grigson held a press conference this afternoon. The purpose of which was for Grigson to spend the time saying “I know a secret!”.
Grigson acknowledged that the Colts have made a decision as to who they will take with the number one pick in next Thursday’s NFL draft. Colts owner Jim Irsay has always said that Indianapolis will use the pick on a quarterback to replace future Hall-of-Famer Peyton Manning who was let go after a season in which he did not take a single snap due to a cervical neck issue.
The only question has been whether the Colts will take Stanford’s Andrew Luck or Baylor’s Robert Griffin III. As I pointed out in an earlier article, the clear and prudent choice will be to take the former Cardinal signal caller. In fact, Indianapolis has always seemed leaning towards this very scenario bringing Luck to Indianapolis for private workouts and interviews over the past few weeks while Griffin, besides an appearance at the NFL Combine, hasn’t so much sniffed an interest in coming to Indianapolis.
So the new Colts GM wanted to keep everybody in the loop so as to understand that, yes, the Indianapolis Colts have decided on who their signal caller of the future will be. And you will find out who that player will be on April 26th. At the same time as does everybody else.
Grigson even went further as to say that there was no hurry in signing their top choice before next Thursday’s draft even though, as the team with the first pick, the Colts do have that luxury. But with the new rookie wage scale that is now in place after this past summer’s contentious CBA negotiations, the want or necessity to do so has been pretty much eliminated.
Still, it would not be a shock to hear from many of the so called “inside experts” that a deal is reached before the first pick is announced on April 26th. Then we can all share in Grigson’s little “secret”.
