It is still very early in the schedule to tell just how good of a team that Brownsburg Bulldogs head coach Steve Lynch has. But after back-to-back games tonight and Saturday afternoon, Coach Lynch might have a good measuring stick.
The Bulldogs first four opponents of the season are all in the Class 4A AP top 20. After a season opening home win against Lawrence Central, Brownsburg’s first road test came against second ranked Southport. The Cardinals started and ended quickly outscoring the Bulldogs 16-2 in the first quarter and 16-8 in the final quarter on their way to a 54-39 win. Senior Darrian Ringo led the Bulldogs with 16 points and Jordache Mavunga added 13 points. But the offense struggled at times as Brownsburg was unable to score from the perimeter and the Bulldogs couldn’t keep the Cardinals off the glass.
The Bulldogs return home tonight ranked 8th this week and will face yet another top 10 opponent when they welcome the 9th ranked Warriors from Warren Central coached by former Hoosier great Greg Graham to the Varsity Fieldhouse.
Warren Central opened their season with an 80-77 over Indianapolis Tech. Trequan Spivey led the Warriors with 27 points.
Brownsburg will return to Southport tomorrow afternoon to take on 17th ranked East Chicago Central in the Southport Shootout.
