Frankfort Hot Dogs (3-5) at 4A – #9 Brownsburg Bulldogs (7-2) – High School Basketball – 7:15 PM

The Brownsburg Bulldogs begin play in 2015 ranked 9th in the Class 4A AP poll with a record of 7-2. Brownsburg has wins over numerous teams that were ranked in the top 20 at the time such as Lawrence Central, East Chicago Central, Warren Central and Penn. In fact, both of the Bulldogs losses this season came at the hands of one team. The current number one team in Class 4A, the Cardinals of Southport.

The Bulldogs return home to the Varsity Field house tonight after playing in the prestigious City Securities Hall of Fame Classic in New Castle last week.

Brownsburg tipped off the tournament with a 45-31 win over the Penn Kingsmen. Senior K.J. Walton led the Bulldogs with 24 points and senior point guard Darrian Ringo chipped in with 10 points. Senior forward Jordache Mavunga grabbed 11 rebounds as the Bulldogs defense limited the Kingsmen to 19 points over the final three quarters after Penn led 12-6 after the first period. The Bulldogs offense, which was held to 13 first half points, came alive in the second half to score 32 of the 45 total points and propel the Bulldogs in to the championship game against Southport.

The championship game would be a rematch of the November 29th game in which Brownsburg fell to the Cardinals 54-39. Southport advanced after defeating Batesville 65-31 earlier in the day. As was the case in the first game, the Bulldogs had no answer for the Cardinals Joey Brunk who had a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Brownsburg trailed by 5 at the half but could never catch up to the Cardinals who sprinted tot he finish in the final quarter outscoring the Bulldogs 23-15 en route to a 66-49 win.

Tonight, the Bulldogs play the first of a back-to-back in preparation for next weeks Hendricks County Tournament in Avon. Brownsburg will host the Frankfort Hot Dogs out of the Sagamore conference who are coming off a 61-58 overtime victory of Western back on December 20th. The Hot Dogs were led by Jarod Smith and Carter Taylor who each scored 18 in the win over the Panthers.

The Bulldogs will wrap up play this weekend on the road Saturday night when they travel to Pike to take on the 12th ranked Red Devils. Afterwards, Brownsburg will head to Avon on Wednesday where they will tipoff the Hendricks County Tournament against Plainfield.
