Published on March 4, 2015 by

The 105th IHSAA Boys Basketball Tournament is underway and the Plainfield Quakers will begin their second season tonight against Mooresville in the Class 4A Sectional at Martinsville.

The Quakers wrapped up their regular season at the Red Pride gymnasium last Thursday falling to Greenfield-Central 59-44. Plainfield held a 26-22 advantage at the half but the Cougars outscored the Quakers 18-6 in the third quarter and cruised to the 15 point victory. Sophomore Nathan Mills led the Quakers with a double-double scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Junior Bryson Ellis recorded 10 points and grabbed 5 boards. The Quakers finished the regular season with a record of 6-16.

Tonight, Plainfield will look to snap their season ending four game losing streak and reach Friday’s sectional semi-finals when they face Mooresville.

The Pioneers finished their season last Friday night in falling to the top team in Class 4A Southport 77-49. The loss dropped the Pioneers to 18-4 to close out the regular season.

The Quakers and Pioneers last met on January 23rd at the Red Pride gymnasium where the Pioneers used a 15-6 first quarter advantage and six Plainfield turnovers to jump out to the early lead and poured it on in the second half on their way to a 79-51 victory. The Pioneers had four players score in double figures that night lead by K.C. Earls 18 points including 3 of 4 from behind the arc. Mooresville also shot 54% from the field that night as the outscored Plainfield 45-29 in the second half. The Quakers were led by Mills’ 23 points.

The action begins tonight at 5:45 with the Red Pride pregame show on Audio Sports Online as Christopher Worley joins me to preview tonight’s sectional matchup. That’s followed by the tipoff between the Quakers and Pioneers for the right to advance to the sectional semi-finals at 6:00 PM.
