Wow…it’s been a while since I’ve posted anything here. Since, well, the end of the high school football season.
It was decided that I wasn’t going to call any basketball games this season by station management so I’ve been keeping myself busy on the air from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. weekdays on 98.9 FM WYRZ and WYRZ.org just playing DJ. If you don’t live in Hendricks County or the western portion of Marion County, you can always listen via our website or via the Tunein app on your smartphone.
Sadly, I haven’t followed high school basketball this season like I have in years past since I’m not calling any of the games. I have noticed that this seems to be a very down season for the Hoosier Crossroads Conference in Boys basketball. Perennial power Hamilton Southeastern is still having, for them, a disappointing season. Brownsburg lost several key players to graduation and doesn’t seem to have the talent level to compete like they had the past couple of years. The early departure of Avon’s Brandon Peters to the University of Michigan to concentrate on playing football next season robbed the Orioles of inarguably the best basketball player they had on the team. Noblesville could be a dark horse under second year coach and former Kokomo Wildcat coach Brian McCauley. Zionsville has started off hot and it will likely come down to the Eagles and Royals as to who takes the HCC crown this season.
Since I’m not calling basketball this season, I have started to pay a little closer attention to the Pacers and Big Ten basketball. The Pacers seem to me like a team nobody will want to play yet nobody will greatly fear either due to their inconsistent play. When they are on their game, they will be very difficult for anybody to beat. The problem is that they go through stretches where they fall off the wagon it seems and have the ability to lose double digit leads in a hurry.
So I am still around and I’ll try to post a thought or two on here as time permits. Don’t forget to tune in weekday mornings from 7-10 a.m. for The Morning Drive on 98.9 FM WYRZ and at WYRZ.org and they keep it tuned in through 1:00 p.m. as I’ll be playing plenty of Solid Gold music to get you through the morning.
